Pluto Colder Than Expected

Pluto Colder Than ExpectedAstronomers using the Submillimeter Array (SMA) on Mauna Kea in Hawaii have shown what many have suspected for some time now.. that Pluto is colder than it should be. Using the SMA’s highest resolution, they were able to obtain separate thermal reading for both the planet Pluto and its moon Charon. The findings revealed that Pluto is about 20* colder than expected… a frigid -382F. Current models suggest that the feable amount of sunlight reaching the planets surface does not actually heat the surface. It simply converts some of the nitrogen ice to gas… thereby causing a cooling evaporative process. Checkout SpaceDaily.com for more details.
