Light Pollution Media Center

In an effort to simplify the tasks of getting your views to the "right" people, we have developed this media center. From here you can get information such as name, address, phone number, e-mail address, etc for some of the most influential people and groups in the state. Starting at the top, this includes the Governor and all of Utah's Senators and Congressman. We also have an e-mail creation tool which will put together the e-mail addresses of ALL Senators and Congressman. You can then customize an e-mail and send it to each and every one of them... with just a single mouse click. Pretty cool. We've also compiled information on a bunch of city and county officials as well as local papers.

Help us gather information

If you have similar information for some people or groups that we have not included, please share it with us. Send an e-mail to MediaCenter@IDAUtah.org and provide us the relevant information.

At the National Level
You can easily reach Utah's congressional representatives in Washington with a simple click:
Congressman Chris Canon (801) 972-4966
Congressman Jim Hansen (202)225-0453
Congressman Jim Matheson (801) 524-4394

At the State Level
While the efforts you undertake to darken your neighborhood skies are invaluable, public guidelines need to be established.  Contacting your local and state government officials with your light pollution concerns will help them draft the controlling legislation that meet our dark sky needs!  Send your Utah Senators and Representatives an email and tell them how you feel.  -- check out how easy it is to have you voice heard in government!!
And since we don't want the executive branch to feel left out... we've included Governor Mike Leavitt and Lt. Governor Olene Walker as well.

Remember: This is a work in progress. If you have more up to date information, please send it to us.

At the City/County Level
As these are the officials who typically influence events at the local level, we can't forget these officials. It is critical that they know how you feel. Here, too, you can, with the click of a button, send a pointed email to the county commissioners expressing your concern.

(They don't like when you send them an e-mail that is going to other recipients as well. If you are sending to multiple recipients, send them all using the "bcc" feature. This essentially suppresses all delivery information, and looks like it was only sent to the recipient :)
