Dear Fellow Summit County Citizen,
!
Attention
Summit County Residents -- Redstone Petition Here
!
There is an urgent issue that needs your immediate attention as it will directly impact your home, your property's value and your quality of life in the Snyderville Basin Area.
As you are most likely aware, development at Kimball Junction is ongoing. One project in particular, the Boyer Company's Redstone project just south of Smiths on Highway 224, is installing very, very poor street lights that fly in the face of every intention of the County Lighting Codes. Due to some extremely poor decisions on this project made by past County officials, the current officials feel powerless to act.
Attached is a picture of the lights that the Boyer Company is beginning to install at its Redstone Project. These are the same lights which Boyer installed in downtown SLC at their Gateway Project, lights which are bright even by Salt Lake City standards, lights which, if allowed in Redstone, would turn our beautiful rural mountain environment into just another urban glow on the horizon.
Neighborhoods near this project, South Shore, Jeremy Ranch, Pinebrook, Blackhawk Station, Trailside, Mtn Ranch Estates, Silver Summit -- the Greater Snyderville Basin -- can expect a dramatic increase in obtrusive nighttime lighting. Kimball Junction could soon rival any commercial area in SLC for inappropriate, glaring, and wasteful outdoor lighting.
Additionally, the Swaner Nature Preserve is at risk. Immediately adjoining this development, the Preserve is successfully reversing the affects of 130 years of man's presence, yet this Boyer/Redstone nighttime lighting could serve to undermine these efforts by negatively affecting the preserve's more than 40 wildlife species. The ecological impact could be devastating.
Please contact The Boyer Company and Summit County to demand that they stop this disaster in its tracks. Demand that ONLY full cut-off fixtures be installed at this project as required by the 8 year old county ordinance. Insist that our rural mountain environment be protected!

Also, letters to the Park Record editor would be helpful: editor@parkrecord.com.
This development would set an incredibly bad precedent, one that is clearly not in the best interest of Summit County's citizens. Please take a few minutes and call the above individuals; have your friends get involved as well. Also, please pass this on to your local home owners association, as they speak for communities as a whole.
The larger the outcry, the sooner this irresponsible act will be reversed.
Sincerely,
Don Brown
