Every November Earth crosses the orbit of comet
Tempel-Tuttle and the Leonids Meteors become visible. An observer with clear, dark
skies can see 10 or 15 Leonid meteors an hour during the peak. The radiant of the Leonid meteors is in the western portion of the constellation Leo (hence the shower's name) in the "sickle" or "backwards question mark." Visible from November 14th to November 21st, the Leonids peak on November 19th this year, with the morning hours from midnight to dawn being best time to observe. Check out Gary Kronk's Comets & Meteor Showers Leonids page for more great info. | |||||
